I’m excited to announce the launch of my new Alberta Impaired Driving Weekly Newsletter, a comprehensive resource dedicated to navigating the complex landscape of DUI law in our province.

Why This Newsletter Matters

Five years ago, Alberta’s impaired driving law underwent a revolutionary transformation. The Provincial Court of Alberta was overwhelmed with impaired driving cases, so much so that nearly half of all trial time in the province was consumed by these matters. In response, the Government of Alberta adopted an administrative model pioneered in British Columbia, fundamentally changing how impaired driving cases are handled.

This shift introduced a new administrative process that effectively decriminalised many impaired driving offences. Terms like Immediate Roadside Sanctions (IRSs) and Notice of Administrative Penalty (NAP) became part of everyday legal vocabulary, yet many Albertans remain unclear about what these changes mean for them.

What You’ll Learn

Over the coming weeks, my newsletter will provide in-depth analysis of:

  • The evolution of Alberta’s impaired driving law over the past five years
  • Current legal standings and how they affect drivers today
  • Unresolved Charter violation issues that continue to impact cases
  • Police misconduct concerns and the reluctance of adjudicators to address them
  • Practical guidance for those facing impaired driving charges

Expert Insight You Can Trust

As an Edmonton criminal lawyer with extensive experience in impaired driving defence, I’ve witnessed firsthand how these legislative changes have impacted countless Albertans. This newsletter will cut through the legal complexity to provide clear, actionable insights for legal professionals, drivers, and anyone interested in understanding Alberta’s unique approach to impaired driving law.
