Yago Medeiros is an internationally trained lawyer with a strong background in criminal law. Before coming to Canada, Yago practised as a criminal defence lawyer in Brazil for more than six years, representing clients in a wide range of criminal matters and regularly appearing in court.
After relocating to Canada, Yago attended the University of Alberta to fulfil the requirements to practise law in Canada. He is currently
articling under the supervision of Matthew Pagels, with a continued focus on criminal law, which is both his professional passion and the area he intends to practise throughout his career.
Through his work with Alberta Crown Prosecution Services and the Alberta Court of Justice, Yago has gained valuable insight into court processes, evidentiary issues, and the realities faced by individuals navigating the criminal justice system. As a result, he focuses on being clear, direct, and thorough in his work, taking the time to explain the process and anticipate issues before they arise.
Outside of work, Yago enjoys going for walks, spending time with his wife and cats, and travelling. He also practised judo for over a decade, an experience that helped instil discipline, patience, and a focused mindset, qualities he brings into his legal practice.
