An Alberta man convicted of sexual interference and luring a 14-year-old boy receives 3-year sentence from Court of King’s Bench instead of the 6-year sentence that was asked for by the Crown. 

Alberta assault case where the accused was acquitted after the judge found reasonable doubt regarding intent. The defence lawyer, Rory Ziv, successfully argued that the leg contact with the complainant’s head was a reflexive action, not an intentional kick, resulting in a not guilty verdict.

A police officer stopped a cyclist for sidewalk violation but actually sought to run a CPIC check. The Court found the officer not lawfully executing his duty when the accused gave him a false name, resulting in obstruction charge dismissal.

Appeal court overturned sexual assault conviction due to trial judge’s misapprehension of key evidence regarding timing of bolt removal, which was material to credibility assessment and reasoning process. 

The accused was sentenced for sexual assault of a 10-year-old with Down Syndrome, child pornography possession, and probation breach. He received an 8-year sentence and 10-year Long-Term Supervision Order, his high risk was deemed manageable with treatment.

The accused was found guilty and sentenced for manslaughter of his infant son and assaulting his daughter. His 7-year sentence for extreme violence was reduced to 52.8 months due to Gladue factors, psychological vulnerabilities, state misconduct, and strict bail.
